So how do you protect yourself against a Facebook password hacker?
Stay away from “phishers” Ever received a legit-looking email asking for your username and password? That’s called phishing. Yep, that’s probably a hacker trying to steal your info. So, a few things to remember:
If you’re already logged in to Facebook, you won’t need to log in again unless you lose your internet connection. That means if someone sends you a gift app, you shouldn’t need to enter your details again, either.
Got an email saying your account was compromised? DON’T use the link within the email! Go directly to the site and log in from there.
Hide pertinent information. A Facebook password hacker will need two things most of the time: your username and date of birth. And anyone with half a brain can find them easily from your Facebook page. So hide them! It’s easy. Just go to Account, then Account Settings. From there click on Privacy Settings and change your birth date to “Only Me”. Do the same with your email.
Create intelligent passwords. There’s really not much effort to hacking if they already know your password, right? So make sure you have one that’s hard to guess. Use more than 8 characters and use special characters. Hackers have a hard time with symbols that’s why you want to use more of them.
If your account gets hacked, you really lose a lot more than just your reputation. And you’re also potentially opening the doors for your acquaintances to get hacked and scammed, too. So learn to protect your account. You’re already worrying about a lot of things; there’s just no need to add your Facebook account to the mix if you can help it, don’t you think?
